Hackers use Anthropic’s AI model Claude once again: Anthropic reported that Chinese state-backed hackers utilized its AI model, Claude, to automate around 30 cyberattacks on corporations and governments in September, with 80% to 90% of the processes conducted by AI. The involvement of human operatives was limited to critical decision points. The rise of AI in hacking strategies has been noted, with other reports indicating Russian hackers have similarly used AI for command generation. Anthropic asserts with confidence that the attacks were government-sponsored, resulting in the theft of sensitive data from four victims, while maintaining that the US government was not targeted successfully.

3. Google’s NotebookLM will now do ‘deep research’: Google is integrating its research products, NotebookLM and Gemini’s Deep Research tool, allowing users access within a week. This integration links Deep Research to Workspace products like Gmail and Drive, enabling context-driven queries. Users can select between fast and deep research styles, receiving a research plan beforehand. The deep style facilitates adding sources as reports generate, helping assemble a knowledge base. NotebookLM is also updating to support new file types, including Google Sheets, PDFs via URL, and Microsoft Word .docx files.
